For the 2021-2022 basketball season, the Shiocton Boys Basketball Team was very competitive and entertaining. They were talented, fun, coachable, focused, and worked hard on the process of being great. The team culture was fantastic; the kids were truly genuine in their relationships and had a lot of fun together. The basketball team led the conference in scoring for the seventh straight season. In fact, the team broke the single season three pointers made by making 238 three pointers shooting 36% as a team. The previous record was set last season with 199 made three pointers. That is impressive shooting! The Chiefs made a nice playoff run by knocking off #2 seed Coleman 75-60 in the Regional Semi-Final and becoming WIAA Regional Tournament Runner-Up losing to St. Mary Catholic in the regional final game. There were a bunch of newcomers this season who got a lot of valuable playing experience at the varsity level.
It was a season of honors, milestones, and season records broken. Dawson Schmidt was voted Unanimous 1st Team All-Conference for the second year in a row and made the All-Sectional Team. Coach Schmidt reached 300 career wins in a win over Crivitz. Dawson Schmidt became the 6th Shiocton boys basketball player to reach 1,000 career points at home against Brillion. Shout out to the student section for a fun countdown and celebration in that game. Jacob Klitzke scored 85 three pointers and Dawson Schmidt scored 86 three points breaking the old record of 66 by Nate Schmidt. Dawson Schmidt broke the school season scoring record with 724 points (previous 581 Nate Schmidt) and the school season rebounding record 243 rebounds (previous 240 Wesley Brouillard).
Our Team Theme for the season is E+R=O (Event+Response=Outcome). E+R=O equation teaches that even though you don’t control events/circumstances, you can create great outcomes/experiences by controlling your response/attitude. E+R=O is how life works. The earlier we understand it, the better chance we have to use it well. We thank the seniors Eyan Putzer, Evan Leopold, and Jayden Carlson for their contributions to our basketball program and wish them the best of luck after graduation--they will be missed.
