For the 2024-2025 basketball season, the Shiocton Boys Basketball Team was very competitive and entertaining. Under first year Head Coach Jon Berger, they had to learn a new system both on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. They came into to the season eager to learn and dive into a new culture. The team worked hard and overcame early struggles with things starting to trend upward over the holiday break. The team went 6-2 over the last 8 games with a close loss to Bonduel and an overtime loss to Iola. They rode a 5-game winning streak heading into the tourney.
The Chiefs finished the season with an overall record of 15-11 and finished 4th in the CWC Conference with an 8-6 record. The Chiefs earned an 8th seed for the playoffs. The Chiefs beat Coleman in the 1st round of regional playoffs 79-45 and lost in the 2nd round to state runner up, Bonduel 50 -87.
The team returned some key varsity players from the previous year with several players standing out and making strong contributions to the team: Senior Cody Young was voted Team Most Valuable Player, 2nd Team All-Conference, broke the single season assist record with 203 assists, along with being team captain. Sophomore Kyle Bergsbaken earned 2nd Team All- Conference, lead us in scoring along with being team captain and Sophomore Brett Singler earned Honorable Mention All- Conference along with breaking the single season rebounding record with 284 rebounds. Senior Jacob Schley received the “GRIT” award as voted on by the team. Senior and team captain, Connor Bergsbaken and Junior Eli Jorgensen where also key contributors to our season.
Our Team philosophy of being a better version of ourselves today than yesterday was key to our season. The GRIT... Grind...Resiliency...Intensity...Toughness philosophy along with EAT...Effort...Attitude...Toughness where the foundation of building our program and team we wanted to put on the floor.
We would like to thank our seniors Cody Young, Connor Bergsbaken and Jacob Schley for their contributions to our basketball program and wish them the best of luck after graduation--they will be missed.
Until next season, Go Chiefs!
