The Shiocton Chiefs Boys’ and Girls’ Track and Field teams competed at the CWC Large Schools Championship meet this last Saturday, June 5. Both boys’ and girls’ teams consist of five athletes each, with only three upper classmen and seven underclassmen. Even with low participation numbers, the teams have plenty of depth. Injuries, some bad weather, and sharing two athletes with the softball team have presented challenges, but have not put the teams down. Both boys’ and girls’ teams are ready to fight for their spots in all events and show everyone that hard work, dedication, and trusting in the program leads to success.
The girls’ roster includes, Brehanna Cohen (12), Ari Stingle (10), Kendal Stingle (10), Ava Lorenz (9), and Karissa Birch (9). These girls have already broken three long standing school records this season. Brehanna Cohen broke the 21-year-old record in the 200m dash with a time of 26.42, that was previously held by Emily Hahn (26.65) in 2000. Ari Stingle broke the 20-year-old record in pole vault with a vault of 9’ 0”, previously held by Becky Tomsovic (8’ 0”) in 2001. Finally, the girls’ 4 x 100m relay (A. Stingle, K. Birch, B. Cohen, K. Stingle) broke the 35-year-old record with a time of 51.17 that was previously held by Corrie Neumann, Leah Ritchie, Lynn Olson, and Melissa Herminath (51.84) in 1986.
At the 2021 Conference Track meet, these five girls covered 16 entries out of the possible 32 entries per team, and put up a whopping 98 team points for a huge third place finish out of the nine girls’ teams in the conference! The team was edged out of second place by just three points. The athletes on the girls’ team earning the title “Conference Champion” include; Kendal Stingle in the 100m hurdles (15.59) and the 300m hurdles (48.10), Ari Stingle in the pole vault (8’ 6”), and the 4 x 200m relay team of Ari Stingle, Karissa Birch, Brehanna Cohen, and Kendal Stingle with a time of 1:50.05. Also receiving a Conference Certificate for second place finishes were; Ari Stingle in the 100m hurdles (16.44) and the 300m hurdles (49.88), Brehanna Cohen in the 200m dash (28.11) and the long jump (15’ 7.25”), and Kendal Stingle in the pole vault (8’ 0”). Rounding up the rest of the team points for the girls were finishes by Brehanna Cohen, 3rd in the 100m dash (12.82), Karissa Birch, 6th in both the 100m dash (13.63) and the 200m dash (29.86), and Ava Lorenz, 6th in both the 800m (2:58.70) and the 1600m run (6:20.06). Because of the girls nine personal records, the team met its conference goal of placing third or higher as a team. This is teamwork at its best! Congratulations to all the girls and good luck to them in their upcoming WIAA Tournament Series, which starts Monday, June 14, 2021.

The boys’ team roster also consists of five athletes: Shelden Anday (12), Parker Moder (11), Cade Stingle (10), Davin Piechocki (10), and Jacob Klitzke (10). These five athletes covered 16 entries of the 32 allowed per team and finished a respectable eighth place out of the ten boys’ teams. The boys’ team has also been battling injuries throughout most of the season and many have not competed for two or three weeks. It was considered an accomplishment that the athletes followed their rehabilitation programs and sat out of meets for the end goal of the season. Because of this, the boys’ team competed with a full roster and nearly fully recovered injuries. Cade Stingle was crowned Conference Champion in the 110m hurdles (15.42), and the 300m hurdles (40.77). Second place conference certificates went to Shelden Anday in the 300m hurdles (43.36) and the shot put (43’ 11.50”). The remainder of the boys’ team points came from Jacob Klitzke, 6th in the discus (110’ 4”) and 7th in the shot put (39’ 3.5”), Davin Piechocki, 7th in the triple jump (35’ 10.75”), Shelden Anday, 5th in the 110m hurdles (17.18), and Cade Stingle, 5th in the long jump (19’ 10.75”). These five boys tallied up eight personal records, respectively. The boys have many more goals to accomplish and will only get stronger as a team throughout the WIAA Tournament Series starting Monday, June 14, 2021. Congratulations boys and good luck for the remainder of the season!
