2023 Season Review
This softball season opened with high expectations. We had 20 student-athletes and this was an increase in participation for the first time in several years. Among those were three freshman and one junior who were brand new to the sport.
Weather was a factor again causing cancelations of several early season games leading us to begin the season with a weekend trip to Rhinelander to play in the Hodag Dome. It was a great opportunity to get on a field early in the season. It was a fun experience and we are planning for a return trip in 2024.
Our team was led by our two seniors Eve Suprise and Abbie Daniels. They are both four-year letter winners and will be greatly missed! Abbie received All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. The offense was led by Sydney Ritchie and Liz Pelky with contributions from Abbie and Eve. The offensive highlight of the year was a grand slam by Liz against Amherst in front of our home crowd! Sydney received All-Conference Honorable Mention honors and Liz received 2nd Team All-Conference.
On the defensive side of the ball, Morgan Oskey had a solid season. Eve led with a .964 fielding percentage and Abbie was strong in left field all season having completed an impressive unassisted double play throwing out a runner at first base from deep left field.
We once again hosted our Summer Sports family night which included free meals and t-shirts for our future softball stars. They also participated in pregame activities such as joining players on the field, in the dugout, and throwing out the first pitch.
Although we didn’t quite have the season we were expecting, our team gained valuable experience and we look forward to the 2024 season with a senior dominated lineup.
