The 2021-2022 Hockey season was a great success. The varsity squad ended with a 20 -7 record and made it back to the sectional final for the first time in the last two years. Highlights of our season included early wins over powerhouse programs like University School of Milwaukee, Notre Dame Academy and Eau Claire North. As we moved into our conference play, we had continued success by posting a 6-1 Badgerland Conference record and sharing a piece of the Badgerland Regular Season Title with Fond du Lac and St. Mary Springs. We also started a new tradition by hosting our 1 st annual “Rocket Red Nose Holiday Classic” which is a four team, two division (Varsity and Junior Varsity) holiday tournament that took place over Christmas Break. Our Varsity squad took home the first-place hardware while our Junior Varsity squad were the Champions of the Junior Varsity division. We look forward to continuing this new tradition as next season we add another four teams to make it an eight team (two division) event. The first part of January saw us continue our success as we posted 7 straight wins until our first loss of the new year to Stevens Point in a hard-fought battle. Next up was our Badgerland Conference Tournament where we made it to the Championship game but came up short to a very talented St. Mary’s Springs team had to settle for the Badgerland Conference Tournament Runner Up.
The season was also successful as the team broke some all-time records. We had a new Most Goals in a season with 153, Most Assists in a season with 215 which would only make sense that we posted the Most Points in a season with 368 total points. We crushed some single game records as well. Most Goals in a game-(19), Most Shots on Goal – (72) and Most Goals in a period-(12). We also gave up the fewest shots allowed against our goal not once but twice this season by giving up only 4 shots on our goal in games vs. Waupun and Shawano.
The Varsity squad had players from three different High Schools that came together under our NHM banner and played as one family to achieve one of the better seasons in the program’s history.
Our Junior Varsity Squad continued to battle each day in practice and hone their skills to add depth to our total team and ensure that we have pieces to fill the open spots next year as our seniors move on to new adventures. The JV squad posted a 13-4-2 overall record. The highlight of the season was their performance in Bay port’s Wrobel Cup which is an end of the year tournament for the Junior Varsity squads. Playing multiple games in a short window and battling against some of the areas best programs our squad found themselves in the Championship against Norte Dame Academy. An early Tilt against NDA had our boys on the wrong side of a lopsided 7-1 game however in the final game of their season our gentlemen put the Tritons to the tested and took the game down to the last second. With a controversial goal being waived off and the hard push with our goalie out of the net and our sixth attacker on the ice the NHM team came up a goal short but gave the NDA team all that they could handle. Progress, growth and dedication to the program is what you are looking for from a strong Junior Varsity Squad and our boys had that and more this past season.
