Our season was built with success during our open gyms. Great turnout and great attitudes in the mornings started the foundation for what turned out to be a fantastic season. Our 4 returning seniors strengthened the season by bringing the tools, experience, and leadership to be successful this season and we had a very successful season.
The team was picked in preseason to finish third, only to know the voters chose wrong:)
Early rainouts led to having some games canceled, and gaining experience for our younger players, but our annual baseball trip to Illinois provided the games needed to gain experience and team chemistry. The team went 2-1 in Illinois and learned a lot while keeping the building blocks going on the baseball season.
Once back from the south spring trip, the team won 10 out of 12 conference games, beating the defending champs both times and getting a victory while playing at T-Rat stadium. By doing this, the team clinched a CWC East conference championship. This was the first baseball conference title in 19 years.
By having a 15-6 record, and a conference championship, a 2 seed was awarded to the team as their hard work paid off. The Chiefs beat Oconto 6-5 in the second round of the regionals by scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th, and then getting a walk off in the 8th. From there, the Chiefs advanced to the regional final for the second straight year. In the regional final, the team came up a bit short.
The icing on the cake was kind of a “trifecta:” Great spring practices, great trip to Illinois, and then winning the conference topped it off. As our team knows, it was always just 1 game at a time, and “ To the Window, to the Wall!” Final record was 16-7. Conference record was 11-3.
