2023-24 Season Review
For the 2023-2024 basketball season, the Shiocton Boys Basketball Team was very competitive and entertaining. They were talented, fun, coachable, focused, and worked hard on the process of being great. The team culture was fantastic; the kids were truly genuine in their relationships and had a lot of fun together.
The Chiefs finished the season with an overall record of 13-13 and finished 4th in the CWC Conference with a7-7 record. The Chiefs were rewarded for having a tough regular season schedule with a 5th seed for the playoffs. The Chiefs beat Mishicot in the 1st round of regional playoffs 91-38 and lost in the 2nd round to Crivitz 69-76. There were a bunch of newcomers this season who gained a lot of valuable playing experience at the varsity level, contributing to the team depth and future prospects.
Several players stood out and made strong contributions to the team:
- Senior Bennett Schmidt and Junior Cody Young were voted Team Most Valuable Players and 2nd Team All-Conference.
- Senior Ty Marcks and Junior Sawyer Young were voted Best Defensive Players.
- Junior Connor Bergsbaken and Sophomore Colton Dewar were voted Best 3pt Shooting Sniper Award.
- Sophomore Eli Jorgensen was voted Most Improved Player. Freshmen Brett Singler and Freshmen Kyle Bergsbaken were voted Rookie of the Year.
Our Team life equation for the season is E+R=O (Event+Response=Outcome). E+R=O equation teaches that even though you don’t control events/circumstances, you can create great outcomes/experiences by controlling your response/attitude. E+R=O is how life works. The earlier we understand it, the better chance we have to use it well.
We thank the seniors Bennett Schmidt and Ty Marcks for their contributions to our basketball program and wish them the best of luck after graduation--they will be missed.
-Coach Chad Schmidt
